  1. Wireless Home Audio Crash Course

I wrote my first program with Automator today. I’ve been tossing around the idea of how to play music remotely from the laptop once we move out to portland.  the idea is that i plug in my monitorless desktop computer. it automatically opens itunes and airfoil.  i load a portion of my itunes library and use airfoil to play music through the airport express and speakers connected to the desktop computer.  i also started using screen sharing, so if i need to get to something deep in the music library or see what i’m doing, i can get in that way.

i don’t want to store music on my new laptop.  it wouldn’t all fit anyway, and it would distract me (seeing as i spent all day working on facets of this problem and not packing…), but if i download or import music onto this machine, i want it to copy to my desktop and make itself into a playlist on the mother ship.  that’s what automator will do.

this little workflow will look inside a specified folder and add any new audio files to itunes. it will ask for a title for the playlist and then delete the files from the folder.  you of course would want to have itunes copy and “keep organized” the music it adds to your library.

the workflow is a .zip file.
